Raymond Shepherd, 69, Silver Lake, entered his heavenly home to be with his Lord and Savior at 1:16 a.m. Jan. 1, 2010, at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne.
He was born May 19, 1940, in Prestonsburg, Ky., to Odis and Ethel Johnson Shepherd. On Aug. 11, 1958, in Silver Lake, he married Jayne Railsback, who survives.
He lived most of his life in the Claypool and Silver Lake area. He was a farmer, owning his own dairy farm. He received the Most Outstanding Young Farmer Award in 1969. He was a member of West Eel River Church, Silver Lake. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and watching them participate in life's activities and was an avid fan of Indiana University basketball.
Also surviving are two sons, Rick (and spouse Cindy) Shepherd, Silver Lake, and Charlie (and spouse Marinel) Shepherd, Mentone; a daughter, Jody (and spouse Bob Surface) Mentone; his mother, Ethel Shepherd, Ligonier; three granddaughters: Alison Shepherd, Fort Wayne; Laura Shepherd, Indianapolis; Karissa Surface, Mentone; three grandsons: Brad Shepherd, Silver Lake; Tanner Shepherd and Kenneth Surface, both of Mentone; three brothers: Arnold Shepherd, John B. Shepherd and Don Shepherd, all of Ligonier. He was preceded in by his father, a son, Randy Shepherd, and a brother, Riley Shepherd.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at West Eel River Church, Silver Lake, with Pastor Ed French officiating. Burial will be at Graceland Cemetery, Claypool.
Calling is from 3 to 7 p.m. Monday at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw.
