Rants

Posted
Editor, Times-Union:
’Tis the season to be ramping up the rants, or so it seems from many of the letters in the local paper. Are the writers having a contest as to who can post the most outrageous of the outrage?

It is hard for this observation to go unnoticed unless one spurns the TV, radio and newsprint. Our local editor, on occasion, posts gut-level rants but nowadays newsprint of any stripe is in dire straits. It may behoove those in the industry to play to their base regardless of the quality of their news. Thinking people who may be interest in looking at the whole ball of wax may want to catch PBS’s nightly newshour, “Washington Week” on Friday evening and also some of CNN.

Candidate Mourdock would do well to research the early sessions of our country’s founders. He would find that had there been no give-and-take, no compromising and negotiating the citizens of this country may well be singing “God Save the Queen.” Anyone who spurns bipartisanship is ladened with much too much dogma, does not deserve to live in a democracy (how about one of those African countries?), much less have a place in policy-making. That defies reason.

From here to November expect vociferous non-truths/half-truths/a few truths – ad nauseam.

Osama Bin Laden is dead.

The American automobile industry is alive.

Let’s leave dogma to the dogs.
