NAPPANEE – Ralph L. Umbaugh, 78, of 25747 CR 52, Nappanee, died at 5:58 p.m. July 20, 2011, as a result of a car accident on CR 52E, Nappanee.
He was born June 3, 1933, in Nappanee, to Harold L. and Virgie Gall Umbaugh.
A lifetime resident in this area, he graduated in 1951 from Nappanee High School and was a Indiana Barber School graduate. He was a former owner of Lantz’s Barber Shop, Wakarusa, in the 1960s and ’70s. He was a metal lath worker in the Carpenter’s Local Union. He was a member of the Northern Indiana Horse Pullers Association, the Michigan Boat and Machine Association and the Ohio Buckeye Horse Pulling Association.
Surviving are a daughter, Cheryl (and spouse David) Riggle, Phoenix, Ariz.; two sons, Bruce A. Umbaugh, Phoenix, and Paul A. Umbaugh, Nappanee; longtime companion, Polly Ramer; two sisters, Helen (and spouse Loren) Stackhouse, Huffman Lake, and Linda (and spouse Everett) Maurer, Nappanee; and three grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee. Burial will be in Union Center Cemetery with military graveside services by Nappanee American Legion.
