A high speed pursuit around 2 a.m. Saturday left the driver of a motorcycle hospitalized.
According to Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Sgt. Chris Francis, shortly after 2 a.m. Saturday, Central Dispatch received a call about an unwanted suicidal man at a residence in Leesburg. As law enforcement units arrived in the area, the suspect fled on a motorcycle. The man is identified as John W. Wakefield, 26, Fort Wayne.
Following a high-speed pursuit, the 2003 Buell motorcycle crashed as Wakefield attempted to turn onto a Lake City Highway on-ramp from Ind. 15.
Wakefield complained of back pain and was airlifted from the scene to a Fort Wayne hospital, Francis said.
The investigation is ongoing, and alcohol is believed to be a factor.
Responding agencies included KCSO, Warsaw, Winona Lake and Milford police departments, Warsaw-Wayne Fire Territory, Lutheran EMS and Parkview Samaritan Air Ambulance.
