Editor, Times-Union: I’m hoping the movies “13 Hours” and “The Big Short” affect the November presidential election. The first one is about the Bengazi attack and how a handful of servicemen tried to rescue those at the embassy. Our government seemed as if it wanted the people to die. The perfect line should be Hillary saying, “What difference does it make?” Hollywood will probably protect her, even though she might be partly to blame for deaths in Bengazi. Obama had an election to win and didn’t want the attack to make him a liar about defeating terrorism. “The Big Short” is about the banking scandal when the Democrat Congress forced banks to accept bad loans on homes people couldn’t afford. The goal was more home ownership. I can’t go to a luxury car dealership and drive a car away I can’t pay for. Yet Democrats thought those that couldn’t afford costlier homes should have them. Democrats had regained control of Congress and Bush didn’t interfere with their actions, which seemed right, but instead crashed the economy in 2008. I bet Sanders, Hillary and Obama voted in favor of what nearly caused a depression. But they won’t be blamed. I was hoping that when the Democrat Presidential candidates said they would continue Obama’s policies that voters would reject them since the policies caused so many problems and will in the future. As Secretary of State, Hillary was often a failure. Obama didn’t help her by pulling our troops out of Iraq to let it go from a Bush success to an Obama failure when ISIS began filling the power vacuum. Bernie Sanders voted against the Iraq War. Maybe he favored Saddam Hussein terrorizing his people, oppressing females and preventing democracy in Iraq. A friend of mine based what he believed about the temperatures in the Florida Keys on the movie “Key Largo.” They were an exaggeration I call lies on celluloid. When it comes to blaming Democrats for the bad they have done, I expect more lies on celluloid coming out of Hollywood to protect them. Rick Badman Warsaw
