NORTH MANCHESTER – The North Manchester Historical Society will welcome Doug Lehman who will present a program about the newly commissioned USS Indiana SSN-789.
The program will be in the Assembly Room at Timbercrest Retirement Center, 2201 East St., at 6:30 p.m. March 11. There is no charge, and all ages are welcome.
Lehman retired in 2002 from the United States Navy as a captain after 30 years of service in the Judge Advocate General’s Corps. From 1975-79, he completed his active duty at the San Francisco Navy Legal Service Office as a prosecutor, defense lawyer, and claims attorney.
He is on the board of directors for the USS Indiana Commissioning Committee. He will be speaking on the history, background and christening of the USS Indiana a new destroyer type.
The USS Indiana, one of the newest Virginia-class attack submarines, was commissioned Sept. 29. It has some of the most modern technology and can operated near the shore and in deep ocean environments.
The Indiana submarine is the third U.S. Navy vessel to hold the Indiana name.
