After reading the front-page article detailing the culmination of a three-month investigation of alleged parlay card gambling at a local restaurant/bar leading to a single misdemeanor arrest on an unrelated charge, I took great comfort in the knowledge that our local police and sheriff's departments were able to devote their time and resources to this investigation as they have closed down all of the meth labs in the area, have stopped the trafficking in other illegal substances, have arrested those responsible for the rash of dumpsters fires which destroyed one local business and have damaged several others and have finally captured the murder suspect who has been at large for over a year.
Oh wait, you say that none of those things have happened?
Sorry, my mistake.
Please understand that I sincerely appreciate the difficult and sometimes dangerous job that police officers do. Without their devotion and efforts our society could not function. However, I must question the priorities of our local law enforcement hierarchy when they devote this kind of effort toward what most would consider a victimless "crime."
