Prep Roundup: Warsaw Advances Several To Swim Sectional Finals

The Warsaw boys swimming team hosted Thursday’s sectional preliminaries and had several swimmers finish in the top eight to advance to Saturday’s finals. 

Manchester and Valley also had multiple swimmers advance.

In the 200-yard medley relay, Warsaw’s Nathan Taylor, Grant Knight, John Deming and Alex Cook placed first in 1:43.44, while Manchester’s Jonathan Eberly, Parker York, Luke Donathan and Jacob Slavkin were sixth (1:59.9), and Tippecanoe Valley’s Brandon Hoffman, Mason Stephen, Dakota Prater and Grady McGriff were seventh (2:00.46). 

Warsaw’s Nick Bazzoni was sixth in the 200 freestyle (1:54.92), while teammate Michael Ray was seventh (1:56.82). 

Knight finished first in the 200 IM (1:59.92), while Taylor was seventh (2:18.97). 

In the 50 freestyle, Cook was first (22.24 seconds), Manchester’s York was second (22.68 seconds), Hoffman was sixth (24.19 seconds) and Warsaw’s Gabe Bowers was eighth (24.38). 

Warsaw’s Taylor, Deming and Bowers all advanced in the 100 butterfly. 

Taylor was fifth (1:00.37), Deming was seventh (1:01.19) and Bowers was eighth (1:01.30). 

Cook placed second in the 100 freestyle (49.89 seconds), while Ray placed third (50.92 seconds) and Manchester’s York was fourth (51.07 seconds).

Zachary LaLonde finished second in the 500 freestyle (5:04.69) and third in the 100 backstroke (57.61 seconds) for the Tigers, who had Cook, Ray, Bazzoni and Knight place first in the 200 freestyle relay (1:30.21).

Manchester’s Eberly, Tyler Andritsch, Donathan and York teamed up to place eighth in the 200 freestyle relay (1:41.71). 

Knight finished first (57.39 seconds) and Bazzoni was second (1:02.14) in the 100 breaststroke, while Deming was fifth (1:08.17) and Valley’s Stephen was sixth (1:08.57). 

LaLonde, Taylor, Ray and Bazzoni placed third in the 400 freestyle relay (3:28.33). 

Warsaw will host Saturday’s finals, with diving beginning at 9 a.m. and swimming following at 1 p.m.



Wawasee Excels 

At Swim Sectional

MIDDLEBURY – Wawasee competed in Thursday’s swimming sectional preliminaries at Northridge High School and had several swimmers advance to Saturday’s finals.

Wawasee’s Ezekiel Keim, Jacob Krugman, Alexander Mathew and Blake Roose teamed up in the 200-yard medley relay to place fifth in 1:51.14. 

Jared Krugman was second in the 200 freestyle (1:45.26), while Alexander Troutman placed sixth (2:06.83) and Karlson Hand finished eighth (2:08.43) in the 200 IM. 

In the 50 freestyle, Daegan Kingrey placed fourth (22.91 seconds), while Bryce Knepp finished eighth (23.79 seconds). 

Kingrey was second in the 100 freestyle (50.17) seconds, while Knepp placed eighth (52.04 seconds).

Jared Krugman placed second in the 500 freestyle (4:45.77), while Aaron Troutman finished eighth (5:15.89).

Wawasee’s Jacob Krugman, Knepp, Kingrey and Jared Krugman combined to finish second in the 200 freestyle relay (1:35.79). 

Hand was seventh in the 100 backstroke (59.88), while Jacob Krugman finished fifth (1:01.52 and Alexander Troutman placed seventh (1:02.52) in the 100 breaststroke. 

Aaron Troutman, Alexander Troutman, Kingrey and Jared Krugman combined to place third in the 400 freestyle relay (3:32.04). 

Saturday’s finals will begin with diving at 9 a.m. ,with swimming to follow at 1 p.m. at Northridge High School. 

Wawasee Dominates 

Huntington North

SYRACUSE – The Wawasee gymnastics team won 99.975-93.5 in a home meet over Huntington North Thursday on Wawasee’s Senior Night.

“We were very proud of (our) seniors,” said Wawasee coach Nika Prather. 

The Lady Warriors’ seniors are Alyssa Minnix and Jada Parzygnot. 

Parzygnot placed first on floor with an average score of 9.3. She also finished second in vault (8.35), on bars (7.93) and beam (8.7) to finish first all-around with a total score of 34.33.

Aundreya Wegener came in first on beam (9.05) and second on floor (9.05) to finish second all-around (33.33), while Minnix was first on bars (8.13) and was fourth all-around (32.33).

Alea Eckert finished first in vault (9.1) for Huntington North, and was third all -around (32.5).

Wawasee won 38.55-13 in the JV meet.
