ANGOLA – Cameron Gillum’s goal in the 70th minute lifted the Wawasee boys soccer team to a 3-2 win over Angola Wednesday in the first round of the Angola Sectional.
“All the boys showed that they wanted to win, and we got that result,” said Wawasee coach Jordan Sharp.
Gillum’s goal came as a result of a corner kick.
Chris Pena scored the match’s first two goals for the Warriors (7-10).
He netted his first goal in the 34th minute on an assist by Ethan Carey, and kicked in another in the 43rd minute.
Angola retaliated with goals in the 48th and 49th minutes to even the score.
Dillon?Drake made three saves in the net for the Warriors, who tallied five shots on goal.
Wawasee will play West Noble Saturday at 7 p.m. in the sectional championship match at Angola.
Mills Falls In Individual Sectional Title Match
CULVER – Tippecanoe Valley’s Payton Mills ended his season Wednesday with a loss in an individual tennis sectional championship match at Culver Academies.
Mills lost 6-0, 6-0 to Maconaquah’s Cole Borden.
Borden advanced to play in an individual regional?Saturday at Portage High School.
Triton’s Chase Butler and Carter Kuntz will face Warsaw’s Spencer Britton and Nolan Knight in the doubles sectional title match Saturday at noon at Culver Academies.
