Prep Roundup: Tippy Valley Tennis Team Edges Whitko

SOUTH WHITLEY – Connor Frentzel pulled off a sweep as the Tippecanoe Valley boys tennis team won 3-2 Tuesday at Whitko.

Frentzel won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 singles, while Payton Mills won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1 singles for the Vikings.

Valley’s Ethan Yates won a hard-fought match at No. 3 singles. He took the first set 7-6(5), before dropping the second set 3-6, and winning 10-7 in the tiebreaking set.

Whitko won both doubles matches by forfeit.



Chris Pena Scores in Wawasee Loss

GOSHEN – Chris Pena scored a goal, but the Wawasee boys soccer team fell 4-1 Tuesday in a Northern Lakes Conference match at  3A No. 7 Goshen.

Pena’s goal was unassisted. Dillon Drake was in the net with 19 saves for the Warriors (3-9, 0-4 NLC).

Wawasee lost the JV match 8-0.



Lady Cougars Fall To Ft. Wayne Fusion

WINONA LAKE – Maddie Paris made five saves, but the Lakeland Christian girls soccer team lost 2-0 to Fort Wayne Fusion Tuesday in a home match.

The Lady Cougars (7-2-2) managed two shots on goal. They will play Thursday at 5 p.m. at Jimtown.



Wawasee Falls To NLC Rival Northridge

SYRACUSE – The Wawasee girls soccer team dropped a Northern Lakes Conference match 8-0 to 3A No. 7 Northridge on Tuesday at home.

The Lady Warriors (2-9-1, 0-3 NLC) will play Thursday at 6:45 p.m. at Plymouth.



Warsaw Aced By Carroll

FORT WAYNE – Kennedy Lauck was strong at the net with 11 blocks, but the Warsaw volleyball lost 3-1 Tuesday at Carroll.

The Lady Tigers lost 25-21, 25-16, 18-25, 25-15.

Warsaw’s Kacy Bragg registered 33 assists, eight digs and six blocks.

Betty Barnett recorded 14 kills, while Lauck had six kills for the Lady Tigers (16-5).

Warsaw’s Kylie Smith tallied 12 digs, while Katie Swanson had seven kills and McKenna Hawblitzel had six digs.

Warsaw won the JV match 25-24, 25-21.

Abbie Porter had 16 assists and six digs for the Lady Tigers (12-5), while Kendra Love had 15 digs, Katie Schmidt recorded 10 digs, Gwyn Bellamy registered seven digs and Tessa Wood had posted five kills.

The Lady Tigers lost the freshman match 23-25, 25-23, 15-8.

Emily Elliott recorded 20 assists and six digs, while Carly Flinn registered 13 digs, and Sadie Walden and Sophia Price notched 11 digs each for Warsaw (14-5).

Tori Jones had five kills for the Lady Tigers.



Triton Topped By Winamac

WINAMAC – Abbey Viers had 10 kills, but the Triton volleyball team lost in three games Tuesday at Winamac.

Triton lost 25-22, 28-26, 25-23.

Lexia Hostrawser recorded nine kills for the Lady Trojans, while Delanie Miller registered 18 assists and Emma Hepler had eight assists.

Triton’s Alyxa Viers recorded 21 digs, while Jaela Faulkner had 18 digs.

Triton won the JV match 25-16, 22-25, 15-6.



Wabash Sweeps Whitko Spikers

SOUTH WHITLEY – The Whitko volleyball team lost 3-0 to Wabash Tuesday in a home match.

Whitko lost 25-14, 25-20, 25-12.

The Lady Wildcats will host Hamilton Thursday at 6:30 p.m.



Squires Shut Out Trojans

BOURBON – The Manchester boys tennis team pulled off a 5-0 sweep Tuesday at Triton.

Manchester’s Luke Donathan won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1 singles for the Squires, while Brady Wiley won 6-0, 6-4 at No. 2 singles and Spence Trick won 6-3, 6-0 at No. 3 singles.

The Squires’ No. 1 doubles duo of Kyle Shepherd and Kamdyn Lester pulled out a 7-6(7-4), 3-6, 10-8 win.

Logan Parrett and Quinn Martin teamed up at No. 2 doubles with a 6-3, 6-1 win for the Squires (6-5).

Triton is 6-11.



Hare Places Third in Warriors’ Loss

GOSHEN – Spencer Hare placed third, but the Wawasee boys cross country team took two losses Tuesday at Goshen.

The Warriors lost 25-30 to Concord, while falling 24-35 to Goshen.

Hare ran the course in 17:15, while Michael Hammer placed seventh (18:11) and Jace Alexander was ninth (18:21) for the Warriors.

Wawasee’s Luke Griner came in 14th (18:30), while Thomas Conley placed 17th (18:42).

The Warriors are 5-5 overall and 2-5 in the NLC.

Goshen’s Felix Perez-Deiner came in first in 16:51. Concord beat Goshen 17-44.



Wildcats Finish Last At Apache Invite

WABASH – The Whitko boys cross country team placed sixth out of six teams Tuesday at Wabash’s Apache Invite.

Whitko had a team score of 145. Wabash won the invite with 19 points, while Lewis Cass was second (78), Maconaquah was third (88), Peru placed fourth (92) and Northfield was fifth (120).
