Many have encouraged me to send this prayer that I shared at the Kosciusko County Right To Life Banquet.Dear Heavenly Father,
You are holy. You are present everywhere. You have all knowledge and power. You established the universe and our earth, judging the nations through the ages with righteousness and truth. Through your providence, you have sustained the United States 232 years. We shudder in your presence as we see our country moving away from the Judeo/Christian legacy of our founding fathers to the immoral relativism of our day. Our Constitution states that we have been endowed by our Creator with certain inalienable rights, yet our public schools teach evolution and Godless humanism. Forgive us O God.
Our Constitution notes that as Creator, you have given us life, yet we legally allow the disposal of children through the heinous practice of abortion. Forgive us O God.
Our Constitution says that we have the right to liberty, yet we continue to see the outlawing of prayer, Bible reading and religious displays. A wave of Godlessness crouches behind the lie of separation of church and state, excluding you from our public life and promoting freedom from religion. Forgive us O God.
Our Constitution promises the pursuit of happiness from your hand. You have been replaced with the carrot that Washington can solve all our problems. The tragedy of unfettered government has resulted in politicians taxing and spending us into oblivion, threatening the future of our children and grandchildren. Forgive us O God.
We grieve before you, Lord, because of the many sins of our nation. We groan how the birthright of your truth has been traded for the porridge of depravity. We sing "God Bless America" when we should be asking, "Is America blessing God?"
We pray for godly leaders in our nation who fear you. We have the privilege to vote in this nation, have no one to blame but ourselves if we have ineffective and ungodly people in office.
Many believe that our problems are political, economic and terrorism to name a few. Remind us, Lord, that the underlying problem is spiritual - we have forgotten you. Forgive us O God.
Remind us that millions of Americans have served in harm's way to preserve our Republic. Some gave all with the sacrifice of their lives, facing the enemies of freedom. Their blood cries out to us to not squander our inheritance.
We pray for renewal in our nation, knowing that revival must begin with the church, the body of Christ. Forgive your body, Lord, of our indifference, lack of faith and lukewarmness to be your hands, feet and voice to a world entrapped in the darkness of sin. Awaken the church, Lord.
We do not, however, believe that you are done with America, Lord. We claim the promise of 2 Chronicles 7:14: "If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land."
May we have the courage of Americans after Pearl Harbor was attacked as Franklin D. Roosevelt challenged "with the unbounding determination of our people, we will gain the inevitable triumph - so help us God!" Challenge us to be that "shining city upon a hill" that Ronald Reagan often stressed. Help us to be that nation that Abraham Lincoln called the last best hope of Earth.
Forgive us, O God. Help us, God. Our trust is in you. Amen.
