Potpourri: Tritch Tops List Of ‘Overperforming’ WomenVox.com, citing an analysis from?NBC News, points out that women are running in record numbers and that they are doing especially well in many congressional districts, especially on the Democratic ticket.
Namely, the report says that women are overperforming and points to a graph that compares the percentage of the primary vote that women candidates won to the share of female candidates on the ballot in each House primary.
The chart compared the percentage of the primary vote that women won to the share of female candidates on the ballot in each House primary.
According to the chart, the woman who overperformed the most among all U.S. Congressional races is Democrat Courtney Tritch, who will face incumbent Republican Jim Banks for Indiana’s 3rd District.
Republicans are working to build upon a 20-year dominance in the 3rd District. The last Dem to be elected to Congress and represent Northeast Indiana was Jill Long Thompson, who represented the district from 1989 to 1994, when she was defeated by Mark Souder.
Souder, who had a string of congressional victories until his resignation in 2010, expressed confidence Banks will win in the fall.
“I believe Jim will be fine, but is likely to be his toughest battle, perhaps for a long time after (presidential years are generally easier for Republicans in this area),” Souder wrote in a Facebook message recently.
He added that Tritch is more “left-wing” than any of his toughest opponents, which included Long Thompson, Tom Hayhurst, and former Fort Wayne Mayor Paul Helmke.
Kosciusko County Democratic Party Chairman Brian Smith said Tritch’s strong showing in the primary against two men – in which she gained about 80 percent of the primary vote – speaks to her widespread support in the district.
“She’s in her own stratosphere,” Smith said.
GOP Wrangling – A possible floor fight could break out today at the Indiana Republican convention in Evansville. Once again, some elements of the party will seek to expand the definition of family.
About 30 Kosciusko County Republicans are expected to make the drive to Evansville. Of those, more than half of the group (18 in total) ?are bringing spouses or family members. That alone speaks to their sense of family.
Dem activities – The Indiana Democratic Party State Convention will be June 16. Former U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder is slated to give the keynote address at the convention center in Indy.
Back at home, local Dems will host their second annual Lake Wawasee Boat Ride fundraiser, set for 1 p.m. June 24. The boat will leave from Frog Tavern in Syracuse. That event will feature Jim Harper, who is running for Indiana secretary of state.
Democratic candidate for Wayne Township trustee, Shari Benyousky, and other Dems running for the township’s advisory board, will host a fundraiser at 6:30 p.m. July 5 at Mad Anthony’s in Warsaw.
Benyousky is doing her best to overcome a slightly uncommon last name with a clever title for the event: Brewskys for Benyousky Team. Other advisory board candidates on the Dem side include James Falkiner and Lori Roe.
Smith said they will formally announce decisions to slate several candidates in the next week or so. In doing so, he said Dems will have full slates in their races involving Wayne and Turkey Creek townships, the two biggest in the county.
