Post 49 Responds

Posted
Editor, Times-Union:

This is response to the letter published in the Times-Union Nov. 16 from Mr. Don Nelson.

Mr. Nelson, American Legion Post 49 hosted a members-only lunch following the Veterans Day service at Center Lake Pavilion on Nov. 11. The lunch was, again, for members only. Anyone attempting to enter the Legion after those services were informed it was for Post 49 members only. They also were informed that the Post would be open to all veterans at 3 p.m. until closing, to include a free dinner meal for all veterans. Every non-Post 49 member was informed of the members-only nature of the lunch and invited to return at 3 p.m. for free draft beer and a free evening meal.

We at Post 49 are very sorry that you were offended by us doing something special for our member veterans and failed to avail yourself of our hospitality and gratitude for your service to our country by returning in the afternoon and evening for the free meal and libations. On your next trip to Warsaw, please feel free to come in and enjoy our spirit of comradeship.

Thank you for your service.
