Poppy Days DonationThe red poppy symbolizes the blood shed in World War I following the publication of the poem “In Flanders Fields.” During May, members of The American Legion Post 49 family distribute poppies with a request that the person receiving the flower make a donation. All donations will be used by the American Legion for programs that support veterans, the military community and their families. Members will be in the community on Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon at Walmart, Tractor Supply Co., Auto Zone and Owen’s, and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Kmart. McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel recently helped kick-start the campaign with a $500 donation. Pictured is Derek Sadler, of McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapels, presenting the donation to Kathy Breske, poppy campaign chair.
