A political argument that turned physical landed a Warsaw woman behind bars.
Jennifer Leanne Jacobs, 39, of 2227 S. Country Club Road, Warsaw, was booked in the Kosciusko County Jail at 10:48 p.m. Oct. 4 and faces charges for domestic battery with a child under 16 present, a Level 6 felony; intimidation, a Level 6 felony; and domestic battery, a Class A misdemeanor.
According to the probable cause affidavit filed Friday in Kosciusko Superior Court I, on Oct. 4 a deputy with the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office responded to a domestic dispute at a home and upon arrival found two juveniles outside the home crying and yelling about the incident.
Police spoke to Jacobs, who told them that she had gotten into an argument over politics with one of the children during dinner. As Jacobs was speaking with police, police reported they could detect the odor of alcohol coming from Jacobs and that Jacobs could not keep track of the conversation while slurring her words and appeared to be highly intoxicated.
When police spoke to the children, the victim told police she got into a verbal argument with Jacobs and that Jacobs called her racial slurs at one point. The child talked back to Jacobs, who then struck the child in the back of the head with a closed fist, according to court papers.
The argument continued, according to the affidavit, and wound up being fought on the floor. The juvenile told police Jacobs grabbed her hair and so she scratched Jacobs to try to get away. A short time later, according to the affidavit, Jacobs pinned the child up against the wall and threatened the child.
When police spoke to the other child present in the home, that child said they had recorded the whole thing and gave the video to police.
In the video, according to the affidavit, Jacobs and the child are seen fighting on the ground and a short time later police saw Jacobs pin the child to the wall and could hear Jacobs said, “You are lucky your dad got in the middle of it,” and “I dare you to mouth off to me one more f****** time, because you will not be alive by the time the cops get here. I guarantee it.”
Jacobs was taken to KCJ and had a BAC of 0.177%, according to court papers. Once in the jail, Jacobs phoned her husband, threatening both of the children with retaliation, including preventing them from engaging in any after-school activities and pulling them from school, saying “their a**** are gonna be pulled and they will be home-schooled,” according to the affidavit. When her husband reminded her that the phone call is recorded, Jacobs allegedly said she’s aware of that but homeschooling is good. During the call, both Jacobs and her husband were upset with the child for video recording the incident and giving it to police.
No-contact orders were put in place, and Jacobs’ bond was set at $6,000.
