More details of Tuesday’s motorcycle pursuit that ended in a crash with injuries have been released.
According to the Warsaw Police Department accident report, at 4:01 p.m. Tuesday, Gavin P. Brown, 18, South Wausau Street, Warsaw, was driving a motorcycle fleeing from law enforcement.
Brown fled the area of North Detroit Street and Enterprise Drive southbound on North Detroit Street and turned west on West Prairie Street. He continued west on West Prairie Street, crossing South Buffalo Street to the intersection of Prairie Street and South Union Street.
According to the report, Brown failed to yield to traffic, traffic control signs and a stop sign. He disregarded the stop sign at the intersection of West Prairie and South Union streets and collided with a 2014 Toyota Prius, driven by Bruce H. Andrews, 72, Kimmell.
Andrews said he was driving north on South Union Street. As his vehicle entered the intersection, his vehicle was hit by Brown’s motorcycle. Andrews said the impact hit the front right of his vehicle and caused the airbags to deploy. Andrews said he was stuck in his vehicle after the crash. Andrews’ seat belt needed to be cut off in order to remove him from the vehicle.
Brown was transported to Lutheran Hospital Fort Wayne by helicopter.
Andrews complained of chest pain. A passenger in Andrews’ vehicle, Leslie L. Andrews, 69, Kimmell, had a contusion to a finger; and another passenger, Grayson Kelley, 11, address not listed, complained of right ear pain. Andrews and the passengers in his vehicle were checked out by Lutheran EMS at the scene and released.
