Police Release More Info About Crash Involving Reserve OfficerA crash report has revealed more information about the crash early Saturday involving a Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office reserve deputy.

Reserve deputy Justin M. Braden, 27, Warsaw, complained of upper arm and shoulder pain after the collision and was taken to Kosciusko Community Hospital for evaluation. He was treated and released without injury, according to the Warsaw Police Department.

The collision occurred at 12:21 a.m. Saturday at the intersection of East Winona Avenue and South Bronson Street, Warsaw.

Travis A. Fogus, 31, North Judson, said he was driving south in a white 2018 Kia Optimum on South Bronson Street. The vehicle is registered to Amber K. Fogus, North Judson. Travis Fogus said he stopped at the traffic light at the intersection of Bronson and Winona and that the traffic light displayed a red flashing light for north/south traffic.

He said he did not see any cross traffic and proceeded south through the intersection. Fogus said the Kia hit the center of the right side of Braden’s brown 2014 Ford Police Interceptor Sedan, at a right angle.

A post on the KCSO Facebook page Saturday said Braden was responding to assist the Winona Lake Police Department.

Braden said he was traveling west on Winona Avenue when Fogus’ vehicle hit his patrol vehicle on the center of the right side. Braden said the traffic light at the intersection displayed a flashing yellow light for east/west traffic.

A passenger in Fogus’ vehicle, Stacey L. Darling, 46, Warsaw, said Fogus stopped at the traffic light at the intersection. She said she did not look for westbound traffic on East Winona Avenue when Fogus stopped at the intersection.

The collision caused damage to the front of the Kia and the side of the patrol vehicle. Both vehicles were towed by Crouse, according to the WPD. The collision caused the airbag in the KCSO patrol vehicle to deploy.

WPD Cpl. Philip Reed completed field sobriety tests with Fogus and a certified breath test as a result. Fogus’ breath test results came back at 0.074%.

Damage is estimated between $10,000 and $25,000.

Assistance at the crash was provided by the Winona Lake Police Department, Lutheran EMS and the Warsaw-Wayne Fire Territory, the KCSO Facebook post states.
