Pierceton Woman Injured In 3-Vehicle CrashPIERCETON – A box truck that was following too closely and couldn’t stop in time for a red light rear-ended a car, pushing that car into a semi Wednesday afternoon.
According to Pierceton Police Officer Ashley Jones, around 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, a Budget Rental box truck, driven by Rati Akhobadze, 27, of Brooklyn, N.Y., was traveling west on U.S. 30 at the intersection of Ind. 13 and should have stopped for a red light. However, the box truck could not stop in time and rear-ended a Ford Fusion sedan, driven by Felicia Beard, 24, East Columbia Street, Pierceton. The impact pushed Beard’s sedan into a semi, driven by Gerald Dix, 61, of Gary, sandwiched the sedan between the semi and the truck for a minute and then spun Beard’s vehicle around 180 degrees, Jones said.
Beard was taken by Lutheran ambulance to an area hospital for non-life-threatening injuries of complaints of pain in her abdomen, neck and some scrapes, Jones said. Neither Akhobadze or Dix were injured in the crash.
The rainy weather was not considered to be a factor in the crash.
Pierceton Police Department was assisted at the scene by Lutheran EMS, Winona Lake Police Department, Pierceton Fire Department and North Webster Fire Department.
