A 56-year-old Pierceton woman was jailed after allegedly beating a woman in the face so badly the victim is still seeking treatment.

Sharon Elaine Berner, 56, of 24 EMS R4B1 Lane, Pierceton, was booked in the Kosciusko County Jail at 7:47 p.m. June 19 and faces charges for domestic battery causing serious bodily injury, a Level 5 felony; and domestic battery, a Class A misdemeanor.

According to the probable cause affidavit filed Thursday in Kosciusko Superior Court I, on June 19 a Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office deputy responded to a home in reference to a battery that had occurred.

Upon arrival, police located the victim who was lying on the ground and bleeding from her eye and had a swollen face. The victim was complaining of pain in her neck and head and was having trouble speaking to police, according to court papers. A witness at the scene told police that she and the victim had driven to the mailbox to check the mail and an argument began between Berner and the victim. During the argument, according to court papers, Berner got on a four-wheeler and drove it into the victim’s vehicle, then got off of the ATV and began punching the woman in the face. When the victim fell to the ground, Berner allegedly continued striking the woman in the face.

Police reported finding damage to the victim’s vehicle, and the victim was taken to Kosciusko Community Hospital for treatment. Police were informed by hospital staff that the injuries to the victim were enough to warrant a CAT Scan and that the woman is still receiving treatment and it is not yet known if the injuries will result in permanent damage.

According to the affidavit, when police spoke with Berner, she admitted to hitting the woman in the face.

According to court records, Berner, through her attorney Travis McConnell, has demanded a jury trial for the case.

Berner’s bond was set at $6,000.
