A Pierceton woman was arrested after allegedly driving a vehicle under the influence where someone was injured after a head-on collision.
Briana Lynn Morgan, 34, of 300 S. Ind. 13, Pierceton, is charged with causing serious bodily injury while operating a vehicle, a level 5 felony; operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated with a minor passenger in the vehicle, a level 6 felony; operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated, a class A misdemeanor.
She was booked into the Kosciusko County Jail at 7:32 p.m. Friday on a $16,000 preliminary bond.
According to the probable cause affidavit, at about 5:38 p.m. July 8, Kosciusko County Dispatch advised the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office about a two-vehicle crash on Packerton Road. KCSO deputies responded to the scene.
The driver of a Chevrolet, later identified as Morgan, was unconscious and flown to a hospital in Fort Wayne for treatment. Law enforcement obtained a search warrant for Morgan’s certified chemical test and the hospital collected the blood draw. At the time of the crash, there were three minors in the vehicle with Morgan.
The driver of the other vehicle, identified as M. Wallace, was transported to a hospital in Fort Wayne for treatment. Wallace said she was driving northbound on Packerton Road with a passenger in her vehicle. She saw the southbound vehicle, driven by Morgan, traveling left of center for an unknown reason and Morgan’s vehicle collided head on with Wallace’s vehicle. The deputy learned the passenger in Wallace’s suffered a broken sternum.
Wallace agreed to a blood draw. On July 16, the deputy received Wallace’s and Morgan’s certified blood results that showed Wallace tested negative for drugs and alcohol at the time of the crash. Morgan’s certified chemical test results showed Morgan tested positive for THC at the time of the crash.
