A Pierceton man who brandished a knife and told two juveniles they were coming with him or he’d kill them was sentenced to three years in prison.
Jason J. Nelson Jr., 20, of 3104 E. Wooster Road, lot 69, Pierceton, appeared in front of Kosciusko Superior Court III Judge Joe Sutton Wednesday and received three years in the Kosciusko County Jail, with one year executed and two years suspended to formal probation, for a Level 5 felony intimidation with a deadly weapon conviction; and one year suspended to formal probation for a Level 6 felony kidnapping conviction. The sentences are to run concurrently.
Sutton also suggested Nelson enroll in a GED program while incarcerated to help his future and get a time cut. Nelson will be able to apply for acceptance to serve his sentence through work release.
According to the probable cause affidavit, on June 4 Kosciusko County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of a knife being displayed by Nelson and that he had left the trailer park on foot. When a Winona Lake Police officer located Nelson and arrested him, police then spoke with the juveniles.
The juveniles – whose relationship with Nelson is not listed in court papers – told police they were playing in a vacant lot in the trailer park when Nelson approached them with a knife and told them they were coming with him or he’ll kill them. The juveniles told police they followed Nelson because they were afraid he would hurt them. It was only when Nelson’s mother showed up and distracted Nelson that the juveniles were able to run away, according to court papers.
