A Pierceton man is being held on $100,250 bail after he allegedly told his mailman he was going to get a gun and shoot hundreds of people.
John Edward Uzubell, 62, of 3423 N. Ind. 13, Pierceton, was booked in the Kosciusko County Jail at 11:47 p.m. Monday and faces a Level 6 felony intimidation charge.
According to the probable cause affidavit filed Monday in Kosciusko Superior Court I, on Thursday Kosciusko County Sheriff detectives received a report of intimidation that was taken at the North Webster Police Department. A family member had called police and said she was worried about Uzubell’s mental issues and erratic behavior. The woman told police, according to court papers, that her mail carrier, who also delivers the mail to Uzubell’s residence, said that Uzubell told him he was angry and was going to get a gun and shoot hundreds of people.
The woman also told police that Uzubell was off his medication and that he keeps asking her to return his guns after she took possession of them when Uzubell was convicted of intimidation in 2016.
Detectives spoke with another family member, who is a police officer, who said he is very concerned about Uzubell’s erratic behavior and that he believes Uzubell is manic, out of control and that he fears for the safety of police officers and the public, according to the affidavit.
Police then spoke with the mail carrier, who said that while he was delivering mail to Uzubell on Thursday, Uzubell came outside and started talking to him. The mailman said Uzubell was upset about recently being arrested and that Uzubell said he was going to “get a gun and hurt hundreds of people.” Uzubell allegedly said he will get a gun in Illinois, acquire hundreds of bullets and that his actions “won’t involve one or two people, but hundreds of people,” according to court papers.
Court records indicate that Uzubell was arrested in December after police responded to a complaint of his behavior by an employee of the Comfort Inn hotel. The employee told police Uzubell had been creating issues in the hotel for days and that included leaving things all around the hotel. When the employee discovered a water bottle Uzubell allegedly left in the lobby, she went to remove it and it had a false bottom. Inside that false bottom, police found 1.4 grams of marijuana. When police asked Uzubell about it, he allegedly told them, “That is legal. It’s CBD.”
