A Pierceton man was arrested Monday after battering his girlfriend on at least two occasions.
Thomas Henry Sheley, 42, of 597 S. Old 13, #24, Pierceton, was arrested and booked into the Kosciusko County Jail at 3:38 p.m. Monday for domestic battery and possession of a narcotic. His preliminary bond was set at $5,250.
Court documents filed Wednesday list the charges against him as domestic battery with a child under 16 present, a level 6 felony; strangulation, a level 6 felony; possession of a narcotic drug, a level 6 felony; and two counts of domestic battery, Class A misdemeanors.
On Monday, Pierceton Town Marshal Tim Sammons responded to a business that reported one of its employees was a victim of domestic battery.
The victim said that on Friday she was at her boyfriend’s (Sheley’s) residence. They began arguing with the children present. Sheley took her cell phone from her and hit her on the left side of her face, threw her down on the floor and started choking her with his hands. The victim was able to break free from Sheley and moved the children and herself to a hotel, according to information in court documents.
She said on Monday Sheley came to the hotel and was angry with her, shoved her against the sink in the room and placed his hands around her throat. The victim was able to escape and call a friend, who picked her up and took her to her workplace.
The business checked its surveillance video and found that on Monday Sheley had been there walking around outside the building in the employee break area.
When police arrested Sheley, they found what was determined to be heroin, a Schedule I narcotic.
Sheley’s bond was set at $10,000 surety and $250 cash bond, according to the court documents. He also was ordered to have no contact with the victim.
