A Pierceton man was arrested Wednesday after allegations of domestic abuse.
Dennis Dean Shumaker, 56, of 3949 E. CR 100S, Pierceton, was arrested and booked into the Kosciusko County Jail at 5:11 p.m. Wednesday for strangulation, a level 6 felony, and domestic battery, a Class A misdemeanor. His preliminary bond was set at $5,250.
On Feb. 8, Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department deputy Shawn Castillo responded to a domestic battery complaint at Shumaker’s residence. Upon arrival, he spoke with Shumaker who had red marks on his face. He said his wife hit him in the forehead with a soup bowl and he reacted by throwing her to the floor.
Castillo then spoke with the wife who also had red marks on her face. She said she and Shumaker got into an argument over dinner and he started choking her to the point that she could no longer breathe. She alleged he then threw her on the ground and she retaliated by hitting him in the forehead with a soup bowl.
She told Castillo that they’ve been married 20 years and she was tired of the abuse.
Castillo then spoke with the couple’s son who said he woke up and heard his parents yelling. He said he saw his father stomping and kicking his mother.
A no-contact order was issued Feb. 16 for Shumaker to stay away from his wife.
His initial hearing is for April 19 in Kosciusko Superior Court II.
