Pierceton Man Charged With ObstructionA Pierceton man is facing an obstruction of justice charge after allegedly tampering with the scene of a suicide.

Rodney Brent Knuckles, 33, of 18 EMS B20A Lane, Pierceton, was booked into the Kosciusko County Jail at 12:30 p.m. March 22 for obstruction of justice, a level 6 felony. His bond was set at $5,000 surety and $250 cash.

On March 22, Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Deputy Neil Likens responded to a shooting. The location of the shooting was redacted in court documents filed Wednesday.

Officers arrived to find a man lying on the floor of his bedroom with a gunshot wound to the head; he was dead.

Also present was Knuckles, who said he was sitting on the bed and the man was standing, then pulled out a gun and shot himself in the head.

Knuckles told an officer that after the man shot himself, he (Knuckles) moved the gun away and tried several chest pumps and then ran to the neighbors and had them call 911. He then went back to the residence and opened all the drawers to find all of the man’s needles and cartridge casings, cleaned up the area and threw all the items away.

Officers searched the residence and could not find cartridge casings or the items that Knuckles said he threw away. Court documents state, “It was obvious items had been tampered with at the scene.”

Knuckles’ initial hearing was rescheduled from Thursday to 1 p.m. April 29 in Superior II.
