Pierceton Council Approves Hiring Architect To Look At Relocating Clerk's Office

PIERCETON – Pierceton Town Council approved looking into hiring an architect for the potential relocation of the clerk's office during its council meeting Monday.
Council President Glenn Hall said the town is looking at moving the office to the Pierceton Senior Center in order to have all the town entities in one central location.
"We have started investigating [this as a] potential opportunity, and we have no idea if it would even work or not," said Hall. "We're not throwing the senior center out. They would still have access to the building. It would just be reconfiguring the offices down there."
Councilman Matt Brubaker said relocation would also provide council with a permanent meeting space for council's video recording equipment.
In other business, the council discussed the future of the Pierceton Recreation Board. Clerk-Treasurer Myra Mast and town attorney Tammy Keirn said the board had one vacant seat and would possibly have a second vacancy by the end of 2025.
"The council ... has tossed around before what to do with those openings, how to proceed with them and even continuing the recreation board, whether or not you want to do so," said Keirn.
Hall said he wanted to meet with Washington Township representatives and current recreation board members to clearly define what expectations are of the board.
"By the same token, I don't see anyone clamoring at the door to get on the recreation board," said Hall.
Anyone interested in joining the recreation board can contact a council member or Mast for further details.
Locally, townwide garage sales will take place on June 13 and 14, with large trash pickup day being June 21. A Pierceton Days planning meeting will also take place at 7 p.m. June 17.
Council also:
• Approved starting the bid process for a trash services contract for 2026.
• Said Town Marshal Jim Bumbaugh has been reminding residents of the town's golf cart ordinance.
• Said a survey seeking ideas for utilization of potential monies from the Orthopedic Industry Retention Initiative grant will be posted online and sent via mail to residents soon.
• Approved the town changing to FREY Municipal Software as Pierceton's utility software program. Mast said the software is a "good upgrade" from what the town currently utilizes.
Council's next meeting is at 6:30 p.m. July 14 at the Pierceton Community Building.
