Paul V. SandsSYRACUSE – Paul V. Sands, 86, of Syracuse, passed away at 5:09 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 10, 2022, at Paddock Springs Healthcare in Warsaw. He was born on March 6, 1935, on the family farm in Tefft, to Edward Henry and Lura Pearl Asher Sands.
He graduated in 1953 from Tefft High School, was married in 1954 to Edith Bailey, and together they had three children. He was then married on June 28, 1980, in Valparaiso, to Nancy L. Gurnsey Wilson, who survives. He was a farmer since the age 18 and moved to the Syracuse/Milford area in December 1961. Besides farming, he worked as a mechanic at several industries with the last one being Smoker Craft in New Paris.
He was a 43-year member of Calvary United Methodist Church in Syracuse, a progressive farmer and a good husband to the land. He loved to drive the tractor, especially the “red ones.” He enjoyed going to farm, antique and toy tractor shows with his wife.
He is survived by wife, Nancy Sands, of Syracuse; daughter, Pamela G. (Richard) Roth, of St. Petersburg, Fla.; two sons: Timothy W. (Shandon) Sands, of Yuba City, Calif.; and Joseph L. (Myra) Sands, of Milford; two stepdaughters: Rhonda Estrada, of Leesburg; and Annette (Will) Austin, of Carmel; seven grandchildren, six stepgrandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Betty Gratner; brother, Gerald Sands; two half sisters: Maude and Mary; and a half brother, Robert.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 17 at Owen Family Funeral Home, 1001 S. Huntington St., Syracuse. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 18 at the funeral home with Pastor Mindy Hoffman officiating. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. (CST) on Friday in the San Pierre Public Cemetery.
