PLYMOUTH - Patricia A. "Pat" Renz, 81, of 800 S. Michigan St., Plymouth, died unexpectedly of natural causes at 10:14 a.m. Oct. 7, 2007, in her residence.

She was born Jan. 21, 1926, in Erie, Pa., to Jesse B. and Winifred Brandt Howe. On July 3, 1948, in Erie, she married James T. Renz, who died Jan. 31, 1997.

She graduated from Strong Vincent High School, Erie, in 1943. She then received her certification as a medical technologist from what is now Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, Ohio.

She first served as a medical technologist for Erie's St. Vincent Hospital, also Goshen General, and completed her career at Parkview/Saint Joseph Hospital, Plymouth. She retired in 1988, but continued to volunteer at various health screening events in the community.

A homemaker for her family, she enjoyed crocheting and knitting. A smile for everyone, she loved to cook and garden.

An avid follower of Plymouth athletics, she attended all of the games, especially enjoying those of her children and grandchildren. For years, she occupied the front row for nearly every home basketball game.

A member of St. Michael Roman Catholic Church, her pleasant demeanor served her well as a "greeter" before mass. She was a former active member of Tri Kappa Sorority and was presently an associate member. She and her husband volunteered as Republican precinct workers for many years.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Jack (Sharon L.) Samar, Woodbridge, Va., and Mrs. Scott (Robin L.) Stamm, Warsaw; two sons, Gregory A. (and wife Mercy) Renz, Plymouth, and Bryan H. Renz, both of Plymouth; 12 grandchildren: Mrs. Steve (Jaime) Gramatikos, Jack Joseph "J.J." Samar III, Mrs. Kevin (Jordan) McCormick, Megan, Matthew and Kyle Stamm, Andrew, Jason, Jeremy, Lindsay, Ericka and Ashley Renz; and a great-granddaughter, MacKenzie. She was preceded in death by a son, James D. Renz, who died May 7, 2005; her parents; and a sister, Marjorie Kolar.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Michael's Roman Catholic Church, 611 N. Center St., Plymouth, with the Rev. Father William Kummer, pastor of the church, officiating. Burial will be in New Oakhill Cemetery, Plymouth.
