Anyone besides me wondering why Mr. Betances constantly blames Republicans for the problems our country is facing? Considering how they have not been in power for two years, the problem is party politics.
My question to you, Mr. Betances, is, what has the Democrats done that is so much better? What we are seeing with the current Democrat-led Congress and a Democratic president is the same failed policies that have been a part of the American political scene for over 100 years.
Mr. Betances points out how the system of checks and balances that is in place, now started under President Bush and that it is part of the GOP's "do as I say, not as I do." Yet the Democrats passed a health care bill that mandates that the American people have to purchase health insurance, yet Congress exempted the members of Congress from this mandate. So, Mr. Betances, are the Democrats continuing and expanding the same "Republican strategy" that you constantly berate?
You also cry out that conservatives were not protesting President Bush's tyranny when the Republicans held the Congress and the White House. There were people protesting the Patriot Act, the Wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. You either did not notice, or were not paying attention. The question that should be asked is, "How come the people protesting the war are not out protesting this power grab by the Democrats?" Both Republicans and Democrats want global government. The difference is Republicans want to conquer the world by force; the Democrats want to give our authority to other world bodies like the U.N.
Mr. Betances also points out that the GOP will again side with big banks, big insurance companies and big business. Again, how much money has the Democrats given to big banks, big insurance companies, Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac and unions? How can the Republicans be at fault for the billions of dollars that this administration spent since Obama has taken office?
Mr. Betances wants you to believe that the Bush tax cuts are the reason for the record deficits that we are currently experiencing. If you had read Gary Gerard's editorial this past Saturday in the Times-Union, it proved that it is increased spending above the baseline that is the cause for the increased deficits. The tax cuts were great, but both parties spent more than what they brought in. If the government wants to lower our deficits and our $13 trillion debt, we need to cut spending as well as cutting taxes via the Fair Tax.
I have one last quote for Mr. Betances and anyone else for that matter to consider. In 1939, Henry Morgenthau, FDR's Secretary of the Treasury, told the House Ways and Means Committee, "We are spending more money than we have ever spent before, and it does not work ..." Government spending did not work in 1939, and the process is failing in 2010. We need to throw out these corrupt career politicians.
You blame the Republicans; I blame both parties, Mr. Betances!
