NAPPANEE - Oscar "Dave" Lemler, 74, of 1137 Echo Drive, South Bend, and formerly of Nappanee, died at 2:45 p.m. Sept. 28, 2007, in his residence.
He was born April 19, 1933, in Bourbon Township, to John C. and Pearl Marquart Lemler. On Oct. 2, 1953, in Bremen, he married Sue A. Swank, who died March 2, 2006.
A lifetime area resident, he graduated from Bourbon High School in 1951, and Indianapolis Barber School. He was a barber at Hepler Barber Shop, Nappanee, since May 1, 1959. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in the Korean War. He was a member of Nappanee United Methodist Church, Nappanee American Legion and Nappanee Conservation Club and a lifetime member of Bremen Veterans of Foreign Wars. He served on the Nappanee City Council from 1980-90.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Tom (Ann) Ecklebarger, Elkhart, and Mrs. David (Mary Kay) Espick, South Bend; a granddaughter, Lainey Espick, South Bend; two brothers, Melvin Lemler, Bremen, and Larry "Pete" Lemler, Bourbon; and four sisters: Mrs. Elmer (Dorothy) Neff and Mrs. James (Beverly "Jo") Kuhn, both of Goshen; Mrs. Dan (Wilma "Toots") Strevy, North Manchester; and Mrs. Alan (Linda) Gigous, Leesburg. He was preceded in death by two sisters.
A memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee, with the Rev. Janet McFall-Brown officiating. His body will be donated for science at Indiana University Medical Center.
Calling is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
