AKRON - Orville R. "Dick" Lewis, 89, of 14616 N. CR 400E, Macy, and formerly of Windfall, died at 9 a.m. Dec. 6, 2010, in his residence. He was in failing health for the last two months.
He was born Dec. 2, 1921, in Indianapolis, to Orville H. and Elizabeth Schneider Lewis. On Aug. 8, 1944, in Windfall, he married Virginia Mae Hutto, who survives.
He was an industrial engineer for Delco Electronics, Kokomo. He graduated from Arsenal Tech High School, Indianapolis, where he was president of his class, and attended Indiana University and Notre Dame. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corp in World War II in the 13th Air Force in the South Pacific. He was a member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church, 32nd Degree Mason Lincoln Lodge 523, F&AM, Scottish Rite, past president of the AIIE and Order of the Eastern Star. He served as the Republican Precinct Committeeman, Tipton County.
Also surviving are three daughters: the Rev. Teresa V. Lewis, Macy; Fran R. (and spouse Malcolm) Burbury, Australia; and Tracey (and spouse Leonard) Luty, Pine, Colo.; a son, Richard C. (and spouse Sherry) Lewis, Kokomo; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, two sisters and a brother.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Hartzler Funeral Home, Akron, with Pastor Steve Pearce officiating and with military rites by members of the LeRoy Shelton American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Rochester. Burial will be in Sharpsville Cemetery.
