One driver is dead after a three semi-tractor-trailer collision Sunday night in Washington Township.
According to a news release from the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office, at 8:16 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 16, Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office (KCSO) deputies and emergency personnel responded to the three-vehicle crash that occurred on U.S. 30 with the intersection of Ind. 13. Emergency personnel arrived on scene and found three semis involved in the accident.
Preliminary investigation determined two of the westbound semis were stopped on U.S. 30 at the intersection with Ind. 13 for a red traffic light. While those two semis were stopped, a 2021 Freightliner - driven by Richard L. Bacorn, 65, Orland Park, Ill. - struck the rear of the 2023 Freightliner and two trailers - driven by Christopher Lee, 47, Fort Wayne - but continued westbound, also striking a 2015 Kenworth and two trailers - driven by John A. Lamourine, 41, Zanesville, Ohio - before coming to rest.
Bacorn was pronounced dead at the scene by the Kosciusko County Coroner’s Office from injuries suffered in the crash.
Lee and Lamourine were not injured in the crash.
The Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Kosciusko County 911 Dispatch, Kosciusko County Coroner’s Office, North Webster Police Department, Winona Lake Police Department, Warsaw-Wayne Fire Territory, Washington Township Fire Department, Lutheran EMS and Reichert & Knepp Towing.
The crash remains under investigation by the Kosciusko County FACT Team.
