One Arrested After Police-Involved Shooting In SyracuseIndiana State Police are investigating an officer-involved shooting that took place in Syracuse Friday afternoon.

The shooting did not result in any injuries, but Dale Ray Harner, 27, of 505 N. Huntington St., Syracuse, was arrested and he was preliminarily charged with probation violation – felony, intimidation and pointing a firearm, according to Kosciusko County Jail booking information,

Kosciusko County Sheriff Kyle P. Dukes requested the state police investigate the shooting that occurred while officers were serving an arrest warrant in Syracuse, according to a news release from the ISP.

At approximately 4:40 p.m. Friday, members of the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office SWAT were assisting members of the Syracuse Police Department in serving an arrest warrant at 505 N. Huntington St., Syracuse.

A news release from KCSO states that when SWAT officers were approaching the property, they were confronted by Harner at the rear door of the residence. Harner was given verbal commands by SWAT officers to surrender. Harner refused to comply with the officers’ commands. Harner then retreated into the residence.

The ISP news release states that as officers entered the house, Harner began to raise a handgun from his waist. The lead SWAT member, Travis Shively, fired multiple rounds from his handgun towards Harner. Harner was not struck by any of the rounds.

The KCSO release states KCSO K-9 deputy Lou Mediano then deployed his partner, Neville. Harner was taken into custody and to Kosciusko Community Hospital for bite wounds.

SWAT officers determined Harner had poured gasoline on the floor and lit a burner on the kitchen stove, according to the KCSO release. Turkey Creek Fire Territory was requested at the scene for the spilled gasoline and patient care.

Harner also is being held in the KCJ for the Wabash County warrant for possession of methamphetamine and also faces additional charges from the Syracuse incident, including resisting arrest and intimidation.

Shively is a 15-year member of the KCSO and a 10-year member of SWAT.

The incident remains under investigation and no other information was immediately available, according to the ISP release.

At the conclusion of the investigation, all information will be turned over to the Kosciusko County Prosecutor’s Office for review.
