Omer L. Howard, 81, died at 4:12 p.m. Oct. 5, 2011, in Warsaw Meadows Care Center.
He was born April 24, 1930, in Winchester, Ky., to Sterling and Myrtle Johnson Howard. On Sept. 3, 1950, in Winchester, he married Beulah Owens, who died March 2, 2004.
He served in the U.S. Army and fought on Okinawa. Living much of his life in Warsaw, he worked for R.R. Donnelley & Sons then the City of Warsaw Sanitation Department.
Surviving are four sons: Homer Howard, Dallas, Texas; Tom Howard and Alford (and spouse Neila) Howard, all of Warsaw; and Joe (and spouse Ruth) Howard, Silver Lake; a daughter, Barbara Howard, Warsaw; five brothers: William I. Howard and Rick (and spouse Kathy) Howard, all of Fairmount; Tracy Howard, Roann; Vernon (and spouse Mary) Howard, Fort Wayne; and Arthur Howard, Hartford City; two sisters, Gene Brown, Peru, and Shirley Melton, Fort Hood, Texas; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She also was preceded in death by a sister, Agnes Griggs, who died Feb. 1, 2010; a brother, James Howard, who died Oct. 19, 2009; and his parents, Sterling Howard, who died Nov. 10, 1974, and Myrtle Howard, who died Oct. 22, 1974.
A graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw, officiated by Chaplain Bob Jarboe of Kosciusko Home Care and Hospice.
