As residents who live along Old Road 30 East, we want to express our support to Kosciusko County Highway Superintendent Dennis Pletcher and the Kosciusko County Commissioners for standing up against the shoddy paving job completed last fall by E & B Paving.
Until we read the article in the Times-Union that indicated the construction was complete, we had convinced ourselves that they ran out of time/good weather last fall to complete the project. We had noticed that the road construction signs remained up all winter, so again we were convinced that the initial paving job was only the base coat and that the top "finish" coat would be applied this spring. We were further convinced this was the case when sections started disintegrating (and subsequently patched by the county highway department); surely the road couldn't be finished.
The road is uneven with dips and rolls that weren't there before. Additionally, water now ponds along the road in these low areas which can be dangerous if you hit the standing water, especially at night; of course this is compounded when these sections ice over. Again, what we have now is a road that the taxpayers paid $1.4 million for and it is of extremely poor quality and workmanship.
We encourage everyone to support Mr. Pletcher and the county commissioners in their efforts to rectify this situation.
