Ohio Woman Bit OfficerAn Ohio woman is facing several charges after allegedly resisting arrest and biting a jail officer.

Michele Renee Layman, 53, Napoleon, Ohio, was booked into the Kosciusko County Jail at 11:38 p.m. April 14 for disorderly conduct, resisting law enforcement and aggravated battery. Her preliminary bond was set at $5,000 surety and $20 cash. She has since been released with an initial hearing scheduled for 1 p.m. May 10.

Court documents filed Tuesday list the charges against her as battery (bodily injury to law enforcement officer), a level 5 felony; resisting law enforcement, a Class A misdemeanor; and disorderly conduct, a Class B misdemeanor.

On April 14, Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office deputy Craig Summers responded to a call of a woman advising Layman was refusing to leave her residence.

Summers arrived and spoke with Layman, who appeared to be intoxicated. While he was speaking with her, Layman continually yelled at the woman and Summers. After being told to stop yelling, Layman continued yelling and was arrested for disorderly conduct.

While Layman was being arrested, she resisted officers by forcibly pulling her arm away to avoid being handcuffed. Officers used a handcuffed belt and Layman continued to yell.

At the jail, jail staff attempted to book Layman and she bit KCJ officer Elizabeth Hardesty. The bite did not break the skin, but Hardesty felt the pain.
