There are many people who incorrectly think that Barack Obama is pro-life. Some of this confusion is due to the Obama campaign and its supporters not being truthful with the American public. The confusion is also due to a media that is not willing to report the facts regarding his pro-abortion positions. Actually, Barack Obama is probably the most radically pro-abortion presidential candidate we have ever seen.
Barack Obama has promised Planned Parenthood and other abortion proponents that the Freedom of Choice Act (FOCA) would be one of the first bills he would sign if he becomes president. FOCA would invalidate virtually all state and federal limitations on abortion, including partial-birth abortion which involves pulling the baby feet-first out of the womb, except for the head, puncturing the skull and suctioning out the brain. The great majority of partial-birth abortions are performed on healthy babies of healthy mothers. Obama showed where he stands on partial-birth abortion as an Illinois Senator by not voting for the Illinois Partial-Birth Abortion Ban Act.
FOCA would also require taxpayer funding of abortion and wipe laws off the books like parental notification and informed consent which requires an abortionist to provide information to a woman before she has an abortion...information like fetal development and abortion alternatives. Most, if not all, pro-life laws enacted by states since 1973 would be gone if FOCA is passed.
Barack Obama voted four times against legislation in the Illinois State Senate that would have provided care and protection for babies who are born alive after an abortion. Jill Stanek worked as a nurse at Christ Hospital in Oaklawn, Illinois. She discovered in 1999 that babies born alive after abortions were being left to die in soiled utility rooms. She took her fight to the Illinois State Senate to try to put a stop to this infanticide. Obama led the opposition to this legislation in 2001, 2002, 2003 and he voted against the final version at a committee meeting he chaired.
Barack Obama also voted against legislation in the Illinois Senate that prohibited taxpayer dollars from being used to pay for abortions. His campaign has stated that he "does not support" the Hyde amendment, which prohibits taxpayer funding of abortion through Medicaid.
Barack Obama portrays himself as a moderate in many ways, especially on abortion. The fact is that he is the most radical pro-abortion presidential candidate we have ever had. The truth is that if Barack Obama is elected, we may well see nearly four decades of pro-life efforts disappear...efforts that not only protect the unborn baby, but also women considering abortion.
