Sexton Hal Heagy updated the Oakwood Cemetery Board of Regents Thursday on some projects going on at the cemetery.
The cemetery is planning on developing the area of the cemetery where the Parsons farm was.
Warsaw Street Department Superintendent Joe Vetor has been out to the cemetery, looked at the area and is trying to put together numbers in regards to how much of the area that can be developed.
Heagy said roads will have to be dug out and asphalted at some point. Work will be done in sections.
Right now, Heagy said there is $75,000 allocated for the work and he has another $25,000 he can use from the cemetery’s permanent fund for the work.
Other projects Heagy mentioned included a breakroom in part of the cemetery’s garage. In February, he said he wanted to put in the breakroom so employees would have a place to go during their breaks.
The office had a new furnace installed. At previous meetings, Heagy had mentioned the furnace would have to be eventually replaced. Thursday, he said someone came out and told him one of the burners was going to go at some point. Heagy said the new furnace cost about $9,000.
In other business, the board heard:
• A meeting between Heagy, Warsaw Mayor Jeff Grose and city attorney Scott Reust about the possibility of renting out the cemetery chapel has been rescheduled.
• The cemetery will have a garden giveaway program this year. Heagy said the cemetery will still donate produce to The Salvation Army, as well as open the program up to city employees.
• The wood giveaway program will continue for at least another month.
• Cemetery staff will take over landscaping duties at the Warsaw Police Department.
