NORTH WEBSTER - North Webster Town Council wrapped up several agenda items during its brief 15-minute meeting Tuesday, June 16.
Clerk-Treasurer Leigh Anne Jessop said she submitted the final application last week for a $500,000 Orthopedic Industry Retention Initiative (OIRI) Community Amenities Program (CAP) grant.
The funding could be used for improvements at North Webster Town Park. As part of the nation’s 250th anniversary celebration, the grant would help pay for new public murals, essential park improvements and enhancements to art, history and community gathering spaces.
Town Marshal Greg Church presented the department’s May report. Officers logged 750 hours, drove 3,859 miles and used 292.15 gallons of fuel.
The department responded to 260 calls for service, including 26 battery, fight or domestic disturbance calls; two criminal mischief calls; eight theft or fraud calls; three drug- or alcohol-related calls; 28 traffic-related calls; 15 accidents or vehicles in ditches; 29 citizen assists or lockouts; and 19 agency assistance, fire or EMS calls.
Church said he has a new patrol vehicle and is “getting used to it.”
In park news, sand has been ordered, along with signs to address golf carts parking on park property. Music in the Park concerts continue at 7 p.m. every Friday throughout the summer.
In Utilities Manager Mike Noe’s absence, Council President Dan Thystrup reported that paving work has begun in North Webster, specifically on Epworth Forest Road. Brooks Construction Co. Inc. is completing the project, which is expected to be finished this week.
Thystrup said the sidewalk project is “still moving, but at the government’s speed.” He recently received a quarterly update and said the project remains on schedule. He added there is a possibility the work could be completed in 2028 rather than 2029.
The next council meeting is at 6 p.m. Tuesday, July 21.
