NORTH WEBSTER – A $5,000 check was given to the North Webster Town Council Tuesday.
The money was given to the council by North Webster-Tippecanoe Township and will be used for the town’s Patronicity project.
The Patronicity project, “America 250 in North Webster: Arts, Parks and Community Renewal,” is a community crowdfunding initiative.
The project aims to raise local funds to unlock a matching grant from the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority through its CreatINg Places program. If the community reaches its crowdfunding goal of $50,000, IHCDA will match that amount dollar-for-dollar.
The money given to the town council by the North Webster-Tippecanoe Township Chamber directly supports the campaign, which focuses on two major community improvements: town park revitalization and public murals.
“That was nice of you, guys,” said Dan Thystrup, board member.

In other business, the board voted to allow a new health care plan for town employees through PHP. The former health insurance company was Anthem.
“It is cheaper,” said North Webster Clerk-Treasurer Leigh Anne Jessop.
The new plan is $8,421 per month. The plan goes into effect Oct. 1.
The town must become a member of a chamber of commerce, such as the Syracuse-Wawasee Chamber of Commerce. The board agreed to join the Syracuse chamber.
Utilities
Utilities Manager Mike Noe said the new vacuum pump is in operation. The blower motor was repaired, and he received half of the filters for storm drains.
“I will order more,” Noe said.
Noe is ordering electronic speed signs, which will be installed near the school and on Crystal Flash Road.
He said he is getting a new leaf vacuum soon and a clarifier to address a clarifier issue.
