A North Webster man was arrested Wednesday for allegedly battering his girlfriend while she was holding her baby.
Jordan Dale Nieman, 21, of 206 E. Washington St., North Webster, was arrested and booked into the Kosciusko County Jail at 10:24 p.m. Wednesday for domestic battery in the presence of a child under 16, a level 6 felony, and domestic battery, a Class A misdemeanor. His preliminary bond was set at $5,250.
According to court records, on Jan. 26 North Webster Police Department officer Candace Smythe responded to a welfare check on a woman at the Washington Street address. While Smythe was en route, she saw the woman holding a baby and walking toward the police department with blood on her face.
The woman told Smythe that during a discussion with Nieman, her boyfriend, he became angry and grabbed her by the hair. He then allegedly dragged her around the house while she was holding the child.
Nieman allegedly pushed her against the crib, at which time she lifted the child up to prevent it from being pinned between Nieman and the crib.
He then allegedly screamed at the baby, “So your slut mother thinks I’m a bad daddy, we will (expletive) see about that.”
Also during the incident, Nieman allegedly threw a plastic container of medical supplies, which hit the woman and the baby’s head. He ripped a door off a cabinet and threw it. The blood on the woman’s face was from Nieman’s hand, which he injured when he punched a television, court records said.
On Feb. 8, a warrant was issued for Nieman’s arrest, with a bond set in the amount of $5,000 surety and $250 cash. His initial hearing was scheduled for today.
