North Webster Council Approves Purchase Of Blower But Not Striper

Posted
NORTH WEBSTER – North Webster Town Council approved the purchase of a new blower Tuesday.

Jayne Alger, project manager for the wastewater/street department, said the town has two blowers with one backup at the wastewater plant. One of the motors of a blower has quit working.

The blowers add air to the aeration tanks to get rid of the ammonia so the plant is not in violation of its state permit. It’s a very important part of the plant, she said.

On Sunday, one of the belts on one of the blowers broke. Right now, the plant is working with one blower.

Alger said the plant is very close to not having enough air for the plant, but it all depends on how hot the temperatures get through the rest of the month.

Council President Lisa Strombeck asked if the plant can wait until the end of the month. Alger said she believed it could.

The town council approved to purchase a blower from BL Anderson, Lafayette, for $15,300.

Alger also requested to purchase a street striper to paint curb lines and arrows on streets. She said it would give the streets more of an aesthetic look. The council tabled that request until next month.

Councilman David Waliczek said he thought the purchase of the blower was essential, but the striper was not.

North Webster police officer Candy Smythe was recognized for her 25 years of service to the department and was given a plate.

Strombeck said Smythe had been with the police department for 25 years Sunday.

“You’ve done a great job and we’ve enjoyed having you onboard,” Strombeck said.

“Candy and I have worked together all 25 years. I started a year before she did, so we spent our entire careers together and it’s been my pleasure,” Police Chief Greg Church said.

Councilman Dan Thystrup said he wanted to the thank the police department for what they do.

“We are very, very thankful for the town board we have,” Church said. He said he hears of what other police departments go through and the North Webster Town Council makes their jobs easier.

Church said the police department is still accepting applications for positions until July 31. He said he has trouble finding people for the positions, but it is still a good profession.

“Regardless of what you hear in the news, the majority of people are still pro-police who still appreciate what you do,” Church said.

The town council will have a budget workshop at 4:30 p.m. June 30 at town hall.

The next city council meeting will be at 6 p.m. Aug. 18.
