Posted
NORTH WEBSTER – An ordinance to increase the trash fee in North Webster was approved by the North Webster Town Council Tuesday.

In December, the Council approved a motion to raise the fee from $9 per month to $12 per month.

Clerk-Treasurer Betsy Luce said the town had been working off a surplus, but it is now gone, so they had to raise the fee to break even.

The fee increase will be effective March 1.

In other business, the Council:

• Approved a $250 donation to the Kids Business Fair.

• Learned there was two resignations on the North Webster Parks Board. Luce said the main requirement was for anyone interested in being on the Board was to live within the town of North Webster. She said anyone interested on serving on the Board can call the clerk’s office.

• Approved for the sewer ordinance to be modified to include being able to recoup the town’s bank charges it gets for “non-sufficient funds” checks and redeposited items. Luce said the town never had it in the ordinance and hadn’t had an issue with it, but the issue has happened more and more lately.

• Learned the police department is still looking to fill two positions for patrol officers. Chief Greg Church said the department is handing out applications, but haven’t gotten anything back yet. He said he did have a advertisement on the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy website.

• Learned the streets department has been salting the streets. Jayne Alger, Inframark utilities manager, said there is another load of salt coming in order to keep up with salting the streets. If the town doesn’t use it, she said the town will have it just in case they can’t get more salt.

The next meeting will be at 6 p.m. Feb. 8 at the North Webster Community Center.
