North Manchester Council Approves Design Contracts For More Street Work

NORTH MANCHESTER – At Wednesday night's meeting, the North Manchester Town Council approved a design and bid contract with Apex for the next phase in the Community Crossings Matching Grant program for more street repairs and improvements.
The $54,500 contract includes full design work and a completed bid for the larger project; Apex will also work directly with contractors once the bid is awarded.
In old business, council approved a one-time alcohol allowance for Hispanic Heritage Days on third reading, and approved two donation requests for Manchester Alive and the Learn More Center for $15,000 and $10,000, respectively.
The council also voted to contract utility locate services out to a third party, starting with a three-year contract at $2,000 per year. Water supervisor Ryan Shock said due to the prevalence of the 811 "Call Before You Dig" campaign, the department used to average about 300 utility locate calls per year but now averages 2,000 per year.
In other business, council:
• Heard the fire department's pancake breakfast is 7–11 a.m. Sept. 20.
• Heard there are three open suites at the Town Life Center.
• Heard the north water tower is being drained, repainted and sealed.
There was a town docket of $809,415.00 and a utilities docket of $661,597.18.
Council will next meet at 7 p.m. Sept. 3.
