This was the comment in the Times-Union made by Darla McCammon of the Animal Welfare League of Kosciusko County on Wednesday, June 16, 2010: "Ron (Robinson) and I talked and we decided he [county animal control officer Jerry Clase] deserved another chance under my watch," said McCammon, citing there was no documentation of abuse claims on file for Clase when she arrived as the AWL's director in 2009. - Times Union.
Well, Ms. McCammon, I disagree completely, as I am sure several others do also. The animals which come to the shelter need all the love, respect and caring that we can give them due to the fact some have already had a terrible life.
I have read several complaints against this person, not just the one Mr. Biltz brought to our attention.
Speaking of Mr. Biltz, are you sure he did not show up for work, or did someone escort him out before you saw him? I applaud him for bringing this to our attention and am ashamed of those in charge because others who are now saying they have seen this happen and felt they could not come forward for fear of losing their job.
Just because there is not documentation does not mean McCammon didn't know about it, and yet she did nothing to prevent it from occurring again. I think there are enough people who are claiming to have seen this abuse over the years that will now come forward that would warrant Mr. Clase's dismissal. I am not sure that McCammon is in a position that she should remain in if she let this slide. I understand she has been there for only a year but it sounds like things have happened in that time frame.
I am going to try to organize a meeting for all those who would like to be involved in helping look further into this matter and do whatever we can to ensure there are people in positions there who will love and care for the animals as they should be. It is up to us, the public, to take a stand and do whatever is necessary to make sure those getting paid with our tax dollars are doing their job correctly.
