Nicodemus Relocates To Market StreetKosciusko Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon-cutting Thursday for Nicodemus Cards and Gaming, 118 W. Market St., Warsaw.
Co-owner Mike Hadley and wife Diana and co-owner Mark Lidell have owned the store since November 2020 but relocated to the Market Street location about two weeks ago.
Nicodemus sells cards, card-related products, board games and “hobby-type stuff,” Mike said.
When asked how they got into the business, Mike said Lidell wouldn’t stop talking about certain types of cards and Mike would collect cards when he was a kid and Mike looked into what Lidell was saying. Mike was looking for something to do and thought it was a good idea. They started selling cards on the internet and doing box breaks - where a box or case of cards is divided up among collectors who purchase the right to receive cards as part of a random drawing.
A brick-and-mortar store was eventually opened.
The name came from an inside joke between Mike and Lindell.
“We did not know when we opened up the store there was a Nicodemus family from the area and that they would randomly call asking if they owned part of the store or something like that,” Mike said.
Mike said they didn’t think they would have expanded from sports cards and trading card games like Pokémon and Magic: The Gathering to things like board games.
As the business has grown, people have asked for Nicodemus to add things, “so we’ve just let the customers and community tell us what they want,” he said.
At the Market Street location, a gaming area was added so people can actually play some of the trading card games like Pokémon or Magic: The Gathering.
People can learn how to play Magic: The Gathering at 10:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. Saturday, including the rules, Diana said.
A Pokémon club for elementary school students will start from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 26. The club will also meet Nov. 2 and Nov. 16. If people are interested in joining, they can email info@nicodemusenterprises.com, Diana said.
Nicodemus also has open play where people can come in and play games any time the store is open except during the Pokémon club times, she said.
Hours are Wednesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
