Next Chautauqua-Wawasee Event Is Syracuse Ghost Tour Oct. 18

Posted

The next Chautauqua-Wawasee event is the Syracuse Ghost Tour on Saturday, Oct. 18.
The Syracuse Ghost Walk will be from 6 6 p.m. in downtown Syracuse. It will feature five stops at historic locations in downtown Syracuse, and each location would have two volunteer re-enactors telling the story/stories associated with that location. Several groups will rotate through the tour; each tour would be about an hour.
Pre-registration is recommended at ChautauquaWawasee.org.
Cost for kids 10 and under is free; 11 to adults is $3. Dress warmly for outside events.
Chautauqua-Wawasee is looking for volunteers interested in any of the following:
• Registration Tent: Check groups in for their tours and assure they know which tour they are on. This "muster station" would be located at Moore's Affordable Furniture in downtown Syracuse (the old Auer gas station).
• Guides: A volunteer to lead the group from one stop on the tour to the next. Each volunteer guide would guide up to three groups that evening in succession. This would be roughly 2 miles of walking/standing all told (but at a slow pace).
• Re-enactors: Volunteers with a theatrical bent who would be interested in being one of our "characters." For this, the volunteer would be assigned a "character" (i.e. someone from Syracuse's past), they would be given historical information about that character, and would be asked to both write a script (about 2 minutes long) and to dress in clothing in keeping with the time period of the character.
Each tour lasts about an hour and the total walking distance is roughly a half-mile on flat surfaces (mobility-device friendly).
This unique event sponsored and led by Chautauqua Wawasee combines historical research, theatrical performance, and Halloween spirit into one unforgettable evening. For more information, visit https://www.chautauquawawasee.org/syracuse-ghost-tour-2025/
