BOURBON - Nancy Marie Lawmaster Wicker, 48, of 8 Kempton Drive, Greensboro, N.C., and formerly of Bourbon, died April 29, 2008, in University of North Carolina Hospital, from injuries suffered in a single car crash.
She was born Oct. 20, 1959, in Warsaw, to Clifford and Eva Thompson Lawmaster. She married Howard Bradley Wicker, who survives.
Moving from Bourbon to the Greensboro area 25 years ago, she was a teacher assistant at Pleasant Garden Elementary School since 1993. "She was a very loving, kind, generous person," said kindergarten teacher Marty Hodgin, who had worked in the same room with Nancy for the past two years. "The children adored her. She was very positive, and she always had a positive attitude with the children." "We'd been together for two years. The parents loved her. The children loved her." "I've been getting a lot of support from the community and the school. We were co-workers, but we were friends too. We laughed a lot, and we had fun at our job." "She was a very positive influence on a lot of kids' lives," said Hodgin. The 23 boys and girls in Hodgin's class wrote farewell notes to their friend. They taped messages to balloons and took them to the Pleasant Garden Elementary School playground and released them, sending messages into the endless blue sky. She will be greatly missed by all.
Also surviving are two sons, Clint and Clifford Lovendahl, both of Greensboro; her mother, Eva Lawmaster, Pierceton; a sister, Sandra (and spouse Glenn) Disher, Bourbon; and a brother, Larry (and spouse Osie) Lawmaster, Pierceton. She was preceded in death by her father and two brothers, Gary and Bruce.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Bourbon First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Mark Day officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Bourbon.
Calling is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Deaton-Clemens Funeral Home, 115 S. Main St., Bourbon, and one hour prior to the service Friday at the church.
