Motorcycle Riders Injured After Hitting DeerTwo people were injured when the motorcycle they were riding collided with a deer.
William C. Harr, 52, North Webster, was the driver of the 1994 Harley-Davidson motorcycle. According to a Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office crash report, he was “partially ejected” from the motorcycle and suffered head injuries and severe bleeding. He was transported to Lutheran Fort Wayne Hospital via Lutheran Air for further medical evaluation. Due to the nature of his injuries, a formal statement was not obtained by the investigating officer.
However, based off the passenger’s statement and evidence left behind, the report states, Harr was northbound on North CR 300E when the motorcycle hit a deer at the intersection with East CR 900N, Syracuse, at about 9:48 p.m. and Harr lost control of the motorcycle. He then suffered injuries after making contact with the road when the motorcycle was no longer upright.
When Harr was loaded onto the ambulance, KCSO Sgt. Kreg Kuhn read Harr the Indiana Implied Consent, which Harr refused, the report states.
Passenger Christina N. Santos-Burke, 41, North Webster, stated she did not initially see the deer that caused the accident. She was thrown from the motorcycle, causing her pain in her left leg and right arm. Santos-Burke stated that Harr had consumed alcoholic beverages prior to the accident, according to the report.
She was taken by ambulance to a hospital for further medical evaluation.
