Minor Injuries In Truck-Semi AccidentA box truck that rear-ended a semi Thursday morning left the driver of the truck with minor injuries.

Shortly before 10 a.m. Thursday, police responded to a collision where a 2015 Hino box truck, driven by Luiz Gomez, 59, Fort Wayne, had been traveling south and struck a forklift mounted on the rear of a flatbed semi-trailer that was being towed behind a 2018 Kenworth semi.

The tractor/trailer was parked, facing south, along Ind. 13, for a delivery, according to Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Sgt. Chris Francis.

Investigating deputies determined that approximately one-third of the tractor-trailer was on the roadway, while the rest was on the shoulder.

Immediately prior to the collision, the driver of the semi, Steven Sanders, 40, Fort Wayne, had entered the cab.

The initial point of impact was on the passenger side of the Hino and the rear driver’s side area of the trailer. The Hino received a significant amount of damage as a result of the crash.

Sanders refused medical treatment, and Gomez was taken by ambulance to Parkview Hospital, Warsaw, for minor injuries.

Ind. 13 was closed for a short period while first responders removed the automotive fluids and debris.

KCSO, Claypool Fire Department, Sidney Fire Department and Parkview EMS responded to the scene.
